NEWS RELEASE: EYKING DEMANDS MINISTER TO COME CLEAN ON THE YACHT CLUB/MARINA FIASCO

(Sydney, NS) Member of Parliament for Sydney-Victoria Mark Eyking questioned ACOA Minister Bernard Valcourt today over his plans for Sydney’s waterfront development & marina spending.

“Mr. Speaker, it is with great shock & surprise that Enterprise Cape Breton is going to put the wrecking ball to our historic building, the Royal Cape Breton Yacht club with no consultation or plan. Meanwhile their Conservative appointed CEO is funneling precious development dollars into another marina where he’s going to park his own boat. While this abuse is happening, nobody is coming clean to Cape Bretoners or Canadian tax payers about this brazen patronage. Will the Minister of ACOA stand in this House & explain this fiasco?”

MP Eyking states that Minister Valcourt’ s answer to the question is totally unacceptable. “First we have the CEO of Enterprise Cape Breton not coming public with the yacht club/marina situation, but now the Minister states it’s an arm’s length organization.” Eyking says it is not acceptable with the much needed development dollars for Cape Breton being spent with no accountability.
